Dave Pruiksma
Supervision Animator Dave Pruiksma has
nearly 3 decades of work spent in the medium
of hand drawn, traditional animation, and
most of that time was spent at Walt Disney
Feature Animation where, from 1981 until he
decided to leave Disney Features in 2001,
Dave helped bring to life many of the modern
generation’s most memorable and beloved
characters in all of the modern classics as
animation such as Flounder and the Seahorse
messenger from “The Little Mermaid”, Bernard
and Bianca from “Rescuers Down Under”, Mrs.
Potts and Chip from “Beauty and the Beast”,
The Sultan from “Aladdin”, Flit from
“Pocahontas”, Victor and Hugo from “The
Hunchback of Notre Dame” and many, many
more.
These
days, the animator is enjoying being able to
work from home with the help of DigiCel
Flipbook, a wonderful tool that had made it
simple for the professional animation artist
to create scenes in his home studio, shoot
them on his home computer, combine levels,
add sound and backgrounds, export files to
Quicktime and send those files, via FTP or
even email, to directors or clients that are
often miles or even continents away! The
most recent uses of Flipbook, for Pruiksma,
have been while working with acclaimed
animator and director Eric Goldberg on a
wonderful short film entitled “Tree Theater”
as well as new animation for a short
featuring “The Three Caballeros” being
produced for the Mexican pavilion in
Disney’s Epcot center. Dave has also
animated several scenes in some Flintstones
cereal commercials for Goldberg as well.
Most recently, Dave did some animation for
the brilliant animated sequences in Disney’s
upcoming live action and animation release
“Enchanted” for James Baxter animation.
Again DigiCel was there to help make the
shooting and presentation of pencil tests,
even complicated tests with multiple levels,
easy and intuitive. The artist notes, “With
Flipbook, I find that more time can be spent
thinking about the characters and the acting
in a scene and less time needs to be spent
thinking about the technology involved in
shooting and presenting the tests for
critique and approval. DigiCel makes the
process easy. I was up and running in just a
short time after downloading the program”.
The artist hopes to be using Flipbook to
help produce some pet independent projects
he has been developing on his own and is
very excited about the new, Mac version of
the versatile program.
